Short Description

Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak signed an executive order titled ‘Affirming Our Commitment to Preparedness, Due Process, and Community Trust’ directing the city to strengthen its emergency management plan for escalated federal immigration enforcement and clarifying that, consistent with Vermont’s Fair and Impartial Policing requirements, the Burlington Police Department will not engage in or assist civil immigration enforcement and that city resources, personnel, property, and data will not be used to support it. If ICE acts in the city, the BPD officer in charge must respond in a non-interfering manner, document the action, preserve evidence, and ensure emergency medical care.
