In May 2026, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed SB-397, which included a package of immigration protections. The legislation include (1) limited U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity near schools, places of worship, hospitals, and other sensitive locations, (2) prohibiting law enforcement from wearing face coverings and requiring law enforcement to clearly identify themselves while acting in official capacities, and (3) allowing the Office of the Inspector General to investigate use of lethal force by federal enforcement officers, in addition to local and state. The bill also amended the state’s Trust Act, allowing individuals to file a lawsuit against law enforcement over possible rights violations.
