Short Description
In December 2025, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker signed HB 1312, which created a series of additional protections for immigrants in the state. The provisions include 1) The Court Access, Safety, and Participation Act, which prevents immigration officers and others from making civil arrests inside, on the way to, or returning from any Illinois courthouse and creates a 1,000-foot safe zone around courthouses 2) The Illinois Bivens Act, which allows civil lawsuits against anyone who violates constitutional rights during civil immigration enforcement, and 3) new requirements for hospitals, public schools, and licensed day care centers to submit procedures around interactions with law enforcement agents
