Short Description

Through SB 01, Maryland now requires the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission to create a uniform statewide policy barring law enforcement officers, including federal agents such as ICE, from wearing face coverings while on duty, with exceptions for undercover work or health/safety needs such as inclement weather, and sets identification display requirements for officers. Violations are civil offenses punishable by fines up to $1,500. The bill was introduced in response to a year of masked immigration officers appearing in enforcement raids nationally.
