Short Description

The New Jersey legislature enacted S3114 which requires law enforcement officers, including federal officers such as ICE agents, operating in New Jersey to reveal their facial identity during certain public interactions and to present sufficient identification before arresting or detaining a person.

The U.S. Department of Justice sued New Jersey and Gov. Sherrill on April 29, 2026, challenging S3114 as unconstitutional interference with federal law enforcement (a similar claim to DOJ suits against California’s and Connecticut’s mask-ban laws).
