Short Description

With city funding, the Defender Association of Philadelphia launched a new Immigration Law Practice to provide dedicated legal representation to noncitizens facing detention and deportation, consolidating immigration defense within the public defender’s office. The launch was supported by roughly $950,000 from the City of Philadelphia (sub awarded through the Nationalities Service Center) plus the Stoneleigh Foundation, and came alongside Mayor Parker’s increase of the city’s annual contribution to the Pennsylvania Immigrant Family Unity Project (PAIFUP) deportation-defense program from $500,000 to $950,000.
