Richmond Mayor Danny Avula announced a series of actions, recommended by the Mayor’s Inclusive Communities Preparedness Work Group, that further separate the Richmond Police Department from potential cooperation with ICE. The actions include (1) prohibiting sharing Flock Safety data with any Virginia jurisdictions that have active 287(g) agreements with ICE, (2) updating Richmond Police Department uniforms to display “Richmond Police” to be more easily distinguishable from federal officers, (3) prohibiting federal agencies from using city-owned property to stage immigration operations, process detainees, or conduct surveillance relating to immigration enforcement, and (4) establishing regular meetings with ICE’s field office in Richmond to voice concerns from community.
