Short Description

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell signed an executive order directing the Mayor’s Office to create and send an ordinance banning face masks by law enforcement over to Seattle City Council. It also directed the Mayor’s Office to submit regular FOIA requests to U.S. Department of Homeland Security to obtain details on federal enforcement activity. The order also directs the city’s Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs to develop and deliver training for all City of Seattle employees to provide clear protocols and procedures for compliance with state and local immigration enforcement laws.

In March 2026, Washington Governor Bob Ferguson signed legislation prohibiting law enforcement from using masks to hide their identities, effective statewide.
