Short Description

Town Manager Paul Bockelman of Amherst, MA issued an executive order establishing guidelines for local response to federal enforcement of immigration laws. The order outlines that Amherst Police Department will not initiate investigations or take law enforcement action based solely on the basis of immigration status and will not arrest, detain, or hold individuals solely o the basis of a federal civil immigration detainer. He also instructs municipal employees to not provide access to non-public areas of municipal buildings unless required by a valued judicial warrant or order.
