As part of a coordinated Greater Boston action on February 5-6, 2026, local leaders in Cambridge, Somerville, Lynn, and Newton, MA moved to bar federal immigration agents from detaining people on, or using as a staging area, city-owned property, and directed city employees to use de-escalation tactics to protect peaceful protesters. The order was announced/planned (confirm signing). As part of this February 2026 Greater Boston wave, Chelsea (a city with a large immigrant population and heavy ICE presence) acted through City Manager Fidel Maltez to bar use of the city as a base for armed enforcement actions and to prohibit immigration agents from using city property as a staging area for operations.
