Short Description

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed Executive Order 2025-06 in response to reports of Trump administration plans to deploy additional federal immigration enforcement agents and the National Guard to Chicago. This “Protecting Chicago Initiative” aimed to publicize information and resources to help safeguard Chicagoans in response to threats from federal actions. The order called for: (1) Making clear and accessible information available to the public on residents’ rights around immigration enforcement; (2) Coordinating with city agencies, community, business, philanthropy, and faith communities to address community needs arising from federal immigration enforcement; (3) Routinely submitting FOIA requests to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to obtain information relating to federal enforcement activity within the city (4) Instructing federal agents to comply with Chicago Policy Department requirements including wearing body cameras and not wearing masks while performing official duties
