Short Description

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued an executive order requiring all city departments to bolster protocols and trainings in compliance with city rules against using city resources for immigration enforcement. The order: (1) Directs all city departments to develop and implement preparedness plans, including trainings and protocols, to ensure city employees know how to abide by city policies on federal immigration enforcement activities; (2) Directs all Immigrant Affairs Liaisons for each city department to report any federal immigration enforcement activity on city properties or facilities; (3) Directs the Mayor’s Office to submit FOIA requests to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to obtain records on all enforcement activities in Los Angeles; (4) Establishes a working group led by the LA Police Department, in collaboration with the Policy Commission and Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, to work with immigrant rights organizations to solicit feedback on federal enforcement actions and the city’s response.
