The Maine legislature enacted LD 2058 which clarifies that Maine’s longstanding law requiring jails to hold criminal arrestees for other law enforcement agencies does not require jails to hold individuals in civil immigration custody on behalf of ICE, Border Patrol, or other federal agencies carrying out civil immigration enforcement.
