Short Description

The Redmond City Council voted 5-0 to officially suspend the city’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) program, operated through Flock Safety, pending further review, following an initial council recommendation on November 3 to disable the system. The suspension came after several ICE arrests in Redmond, including some near camera locations, and a University of Washington report on federal access to Washington Flock networks. The police department said it does not participate in immigration enforcement and that ICE never accessed Redmond’s data, but the council kept the system disabled while evaluating the program’s governance and legal options, including terminating the contract. Redmond paused its 24 Flock cameras as part of a broader statewide pullback; the city continued to weigh whether to terminate its contract.
