Short Description
The Colorado legislature expanded the state’s immigrant protections in 2025 with SB 25-276, which bars courts, the legislature, and local governments from sharing immigration-related personal data with federal officials, prohibits jails from delaying release for federal immigration holds, bars out-of-state National Guard troops from entering the state for immigration enforcement without the governor’s approval, and creates civil penalties (up to $50,000) for violations, funding an Immigration Defense Fund for legal services. The bill was signed amid an existing U.S. Department of Justice lawsuit against Colorado over its sanctuary-style immigration laws.
