Short Description
The Common Council advanced a multi-part ‘ICE Out MKE’ package: a resolution (14-0) declaring opposition to federal immigration enforcement and requesting ICE avoid the city; a resolution calling on the Police Department to protect residents’ constitutional rights during protests; a resolution barring use of city-owned parking lots, ramps, vacant lots, parks, and garages for staging/processing/operations; and an ordinance (plus an MPD standard operating procedure change) barring law enforcement from concealing their identity with masks. The package also proposed a new city office to welcome immigrants and newcomers.
