The San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the ICE Free Zones Ordinance, a first-of-its-kind binding measure amending Section 4.19 of the city’s Administrative Code (on the books since 1986, governing use of city property). It declares that assisting federal immigration enforcement is not a City purpose, provides that no person or entity may use city property for unauthorized purposes that disrupt city operations, and authorizes the City Attorney to bring civil actions against violators. San Francisco followed Richmond, San Jose, Oakland, and Santa Clara and Alameda counties in adopting property-based ICE-free-zone measures.
